Check a Korean business: trading, suspended or closed

Enter a 10-digit Korean business registration number (사업자등록번호) and this tells you whether that business is still trading, suspended or closed, and whether it is registered to sell online in Korea. The data comes from the National Tax Service and the Fair Trade Commission, and every answer carries the time it was retrieved.

What this actually checks

  1. The 10 digits are validated locally first — a mistyped number is caught before anything is sent anywhere.
  2. The National Tax Service is asked whether the business is trading, suspended or closed, and how it is classified for VAT.
  3. If you supply a name and opening date, the tax office is asked whether all three belong to the same business.
  4. If you tick the online-seller box, the Fair Trade Commission register is checked for an active filing.

What this cannot tell you

  • It is not a credit check. A trading business can still fail to pay.
  • It is not tax advice. We report the classification the tax office gives; we do not interpret what it means for your invoices.
  • On an identity mismatch the tax office does not say which field is wrong. We narrow it to the name or the date, no further.
  • A business can hold several online-seller filings, including dead ones under a former trading name. We report whether any is active and how many others exist.

FAQ

Where does the opening date come from?

The 개업연월일 printed on the business registration certificate. It is not the incorporation date and not the date the certificate was issued — those differ, and mixing them up is the most common reason an identity check fails.

Why does a real company come back as not registered?

Usually a typo. The tax office returns the same answer for a malformed number and an unregistered one, which is why we check the check digit before asking.

Is this the same as 홈택스?

It uses the same National Tax Service data, through the official open API. The difference is that it also checks the Fair Trade Commission filing in the same request, and returns the retrieval time so you know how fresh the answer is.
